Perfect for making beautiful leather and car polish!
This wax is supplied in both Powder & Flake Form and we cannot guarantee what form each customer will receive, however, the formulation has not changed. We can only dispatch what we have available and cannot take requests
This Carnauba wax has a yellow colour. It comes from the Carnauba Palm which is harvested from South America; you can add oils to it as it is not naturally scented.
Many customers use Carnauba wax to make polishes and many other wonderful things.
The carnauba wax is not an easy wax to work with, though in it's raw state it is very hard. To make it manageable it is softened with other waxes, like beeswax, a great wax in it's own right.
Using just these two waxes would still make a wax that is to hard to use, so you will need to add some lubrication and some form of solvent to keep the wax soft and make the wax cure when applied. Coconut oil, orange oil (this gives it that orange smell) and white vinegar.
Recipe (fills 1 x 4oz jar):
5 Tablespoons Coconut Oil
4 teaspoons Carnauba Wax
2 teaspoons Beeswax
7.5 teaspoons White Vinegar
50-60 drops of essential oils
METHOD
The timing and order of ingredients is very important. If not done in this way the oil and vinegar might not properly emulsify and you will likely end up with some separation. Following these steps though, should give you a well-blended end product.
Add coconut oil and vinegar to a mason jar and place that jar in a pot of simmering water. Wait until these ingredients are warmed and melted before moving on.
Once well-heated add the carnauba wax and beeswax.
Continue to heat in the pot, watching and stirring often, until both waxes are completely melted and combined. Remove the mason jar from the heat and swirl around for about a minute (holding the upper portion of the jar that was not in contact with heat or hot water). Swirling is extremely important to help keep everything combined and blended and help speed cooling without the solution setting in the jar.
Once it has cooled, but not yet set, add essential oils and swirl again several times to combine. Pour mixture immediately into your storage container and allow to set at room temperature.
Great product
I bought some beeswax and carnuba and followed your really helpful recipe and made a wax that works really well on turned bowls. I used boiled linseed as the lubricant. It has made great hard blocks making it easy to apply on a spinning bowl. Your prices are really good too so I will be sharing your web details on the wood turning forums and social media pages
It's wonderful to hear our recipe worked so well for you Stephen! Thank you for your continued support!
I haven’t actually used all the products I bought yet, but it all looks like good quality. So far I have used the Bees Wax, and that was great - melted really consistently and has a lovely subtle fragrance.
